 ok I feel like writing something in this section...The static arrangement of people and things in this shot makes it feel a bit like a set-up, but I promise you this is not staged. I would never submit a staged photo to a street photography challenge. Indeed, one of the two men is a security guard of a small shopping center adjacent to a beautiful Yu Yuan Garden in Shanghai. Actually, it was very weird, because the shopping center was bustling with people (as nearly everywhere in China), and this entrance was (at least in this short interval) so quiet and peaceful... As far as I could tell, both of them did not look at anything interesting in particular, just sort of relaxed and peered in space absentmindedly, with a strangely similar facial expression despite obvious differences in everything else. . Hence the title...

Just dropping by as I remembered this image from last year. One of my rare 10s. I am heading back to Shanghai again in a couple of weeks and hope I get chance to capture something half as good as this.

I like this shot a lot. The composition, color, texture and light are well done and make this photograph beautiful ... beyond the tech details what captures my interest in this photo are the people and why they are there .. who are the people with their backs turned towards us? Is the guy in the uniform some kind of security. Then the sign, what does it say, or mean? And who's bike is that? I look at all these things in this image and wonder.. to me this makes a good photo, this sense of wonder.. well done .. bumping this up.

As interesting as the bike is, I don't feel it adds to this shot. I tried a square crop and if you cloned out the little bit of wheel left after the crop, I think it works a little better as you then concentrate your attention on the people and aren't pulled off to the right looking at the bike. Really nice capture with interesting subjects.

I have no idea if this is a common sight where it was taken, but it seems like a most uncommon moment of conjunctions and at the same time like a carefully and calmly thought out painting.

This rocks... Great light in this. The distance separating the two men is greater than that between them. ...The wall fixture, the couple behind as a contrast, the bicycle coming out from within the shadows... Bravo bravo!

not our usual run-of-the-mill-DPC submission, that's for sure.
nice tones and warm colours. the cropping "feels" a bit awkward though.

This was my favorite in the challenge. Not so much that it tells a story, it does to some extent, but nearly all the elements in the photo are perfect. It is a still-life of humanity. The officer on one side (with the one red sock), the guy to the right with the same expression, but a different posture. The perfect framing and lighting. The square shapes, mixed the with the circles and the straight lines. Really, just a perfect shot. I give you a 9 for this challenge, 10 if it were in a free study.

The lighting is fantastic and the composition, with these almost staged looking characters is very interesting. So many different focus points in the photograph makes it amusing to look at.
