Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Street Photography III (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Canon EOS-40D
Lens: Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM
Location: Santa Barbara, CA
Date: Oct 25, 2008
Aperture: 5.6
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/400
Galleries: Emotive, Seascapes
Date Uploaded: Oct 25, 2008

My first entry as a member and using advanced editing.

Shot in RAW
Processed with Photoshop CS4 (trial version)
minor adjustments in Camera Raw (exposure, sharpening)

Desaturated using channel mixer, applied high-pass layer overlay

So I know that this is not typical "Street" as it's not on the street and doesn't possess that typical gritty, urban feeling of most Street photos, but I felt that this met the challenge description of a candid situation in a public place.

Lots of great elements in this photo. Everything seemed to align at just the right time. I don't even mind that your sky blew out. Because of how it's a gradient of tones, it seems to work.

I can't get over how out of scale that boat is. It looks like a toy, heh.

I like the touch of the Egret caught in flight, of course that was jsut luck that it happened by at the right time. Still, it adds a nice element to the scene.

Very much my kind of shot - neat stuff to see everywhere. A couple, a sailboat, someone wading, a pelican (yay!), a motor boat, and trees. All grounded by a bench. Has the lovely feel of a late summer afternoon - relaxed, warm, and carefree.

Well composed, and the pelican adds a very nice touch.

I think the sepia tone in this picture fits it very well.

Lovely shot. Has wonderful elements... romance, a great view, birds in flight... It suffers a bit from editing flaws like sharpening halos and slight pixel distortion though, but nonetheless lovely :)

Seeing the man's profile adds a lot to the image. I would bet that a color version would just as strong or stronger than the bw version. The boat and bird add to the shot and allow the eye to move around the image with the log drawing the eye back to the people sitting on it.
