When the challenge came up this is the type of bur that I wanted to practice with and learn the exposures at either end of the lens zoom, tried with a 75mm-300mm first but was not happy with the results changing down to an 18mm – 55mm this turned in better results for the shoot, I learn t that the main point was to make sure your camera was set up in a direct straight line to a point selected for the shoot, so no side distortion appeared when zooming the lens, and all the subject composition was not duplicated in any way during the shoot.
This was taken at 10.15am in the morning with the sun to my upper right giving light across the subject area that I believed would work better, this meant I had to push the DOF out as far as the lens would allow F36 in this case f22 on the zoom in, when looking at the exposure point showed -2 clicks at f36 and + 4 clicks at f22 this told me the image would be over exposed, decided to go with these setting and adjust the exposure in the software, the shutter actually fired for this shot with the focal length at 49mm.
I also needed to make sure the image was in focus at the long end, I wished to be able to see the subject composition through the lens zoom (Blur), not sure if this could be done to the way I was thinking, am very pleased the way the ripples in the water retained their clarity,as well as the foreground logs and water edged grasses in the background.
As this is Spring here and autumn in the northern hemisphere over saturated the colors a little to add some impact to the photo. Hope that you like this result as much as I do.

Great shot. I love the surreal feeling of it. As Melethia mentioned, thanks for tutorial. |

Incredibly sharp! I don't think I've ever tried anything like this before. I really appreciate your explanation and thought process - very valuable learning tool! I especially like how you figured the differences in exposure at each end of the scale - I would never have thought of that. I'm sorry so few took the time to really look at this. Hopefully more will now. |
