A DPC member for 18 months now and finally I decide to enter my first challenge. This is one of several squirrls that live in 3 large Bur Oak trees in my backyard. Bur Oak's have the largest acorns, up to 1 1/2 inches in diameter. So my backyard is a virtual squirrel smorgasbord.

After I submitted the photo, I realized that I didn't take advantage of Advanced Editing much. Other than cloning out a couple of stray hairs, this was processed using Basic Editing rules. In retrospect, I should have taken care of the blown-out highlights in the corncob (topleft corner) and on the chest of the squirrel. Oh well, I'll work on my PS skills.

Thank you for the comments. I'm very happy with the score on my first challenge.

I thought this was really cute. It reminds me of a woman who's wearing a long train and then she swoops and turns to pose. It's a fun character portrait of an animal :)

I just read your comments. On my (calibrated) screen the chest and corncob are not blown out. They are fairly bright, but certainly not blown out.

Great job on your first challenge. congrats!

They don't call them that for nothing, beautiful tail on that squirrel. I feed one regularly and his coat has turned gray for winter and he almost doubled in size too. Great capture of a common subject.
