No question this is better. The selective desaturation in the original turned me off, not because of the selective desaturation, but because it WAS cheesy. This is quite honestly a very good photo.

I think this would have scored as high as your entry did. The small boy's face and then gaze immediately drew my eye to the subject. Great shot!
