I like the picture, but it makes be think of either sugar, salt, or snow. Obvious its a Na element picture, but just doesn't sound it out to me. In my opinion choosing salt is difficult to communicate one of its two elements, but you did a good effort and i'm sure it was a nice subject to photograph.

would be better if the lighting on the salt was uniform so some of it didn;t look so grey

Now that's a grainy photo =] Nice use of the rule of thirds and movement into the frame. Is that a snowman I see... fun photo

Just a little nitpicky comment here; your title should have been NaCl. At least that is 2 elements, instead of just Na, which salt is not.

or is it sodium chloride...I like the lighting and the salt man. I think the composition could be stronger without the right 1/4
