Nice composition, but the lighting could use some work. The Bottom left corner pulls my eye away from the subject.

Nice composition, but I'm afraid the harsh lighting does not do the picture right. And some (I hope not too many) of the voters my think this is dnmc

Lighting is too harsh from flash and is distracting. Would prefer it on a different surface and perhaps with something more interesting going on with the apple (sliced up? paired with a bottle of wine?).

I am guessing this is bleu cheese? will get slammed in voting I think. If you used your camera's onboard flash you can put a mirror just above and behind the apple out of frame to bounce the light back down to give the photo more depth, it will add some highlights to the apple and cheese.
