I went to this waterfall with the intention of taking another photograph using the Mirrored Ball. I put my sandals on and walked onto the falls and set everything up. It was about 8 degrees Celcius (46 Fahrenheit). The water was very cold and my feet were in pain for the first 30 seconds. After that, I think they just went numb. After a couple shots, I quickly realized the results were not what I wanted them to be. Another photographer was in the area at the time. He probably thought I was crazy. he he.
After drying myself off, and changing back into my shoes, I decided I might as well take some photos so that my 45 minute drive there wasn't in vain. This was the 4th time I had visited Albion Falls, but I was never completely satisfied with the photographs I had taken. There are some giant rocks at the base of the falls that make it very difficult to frame without having them in the photograph. After much searching, I finally found my spot. It was 4 pm, and with only about 1 hour of sunlight left, I set up my tripod on one of the rocks. In order to get this shot without the boulders in the foreground, I had to extend the legs of the tripod as far as they went, lean the camera forward because the rock was on an incline, and elevate the neck of the tripod above my head. I wasn't able to see through the viewfinder, so I had to take a photograph, and then see what the crop looked like on the digital screen. I would adjust the neck of the tripod, and try again. Eventually, I found my crop, and took the photos I needed. These are the days I wish I had a wide angle lens. The following photo shows the large amount of rocks at the base of the waterfall, as well as my setup.
Thank you to everyone on this website. I have learned a great deal since joining a year and a half ago. A special thank you to all those who took the time to vote, as well as comment. It is an honour to be able to participate in a challenge with so many great photographers whom I both admire and respect. |

I love waterfalls like this. The shutter speed is nice, but the lighting has let you down a bit. It's probably hard. If you got direct light on it you'd blow the water quickly, but without at least dapple, it's very flat. 6 |

Jonathan.... I know this is yours, so I cant vote on it... which is too bad... because of the 10 or so that I have seen, yours stack up pretty nicely. Hope you do well... |

The vignette seems a bit harsh/abrupt. |

complex, sharp and perfect technically, I don't love the vignetting though as it just seems too obvious 8 |

This is beautifully captured. I'm not being overly impressed though and I'm wondering why? Could it be the lack of shadows that could add depth to this shot or the lack of sunshine? Colours are natural and fitting to this scene although my eyes just cannot seem to stay in one place, they're all over the place looking for a main point of focus. In other words, it doesn't really stand out from other waterfall shots that I have seen although it is a fine image indeed. |
