The alien ship hovered overhead, looking for a place to land. The crew knew that the Mayans were anxiously awaiting the arrival of their gods, but they did not see them. Quexactyl the navigator would have to check the autopilot system for errors. He was sure he had fed it the proper coordinates for Mexico.

Looks like perhaps a rubber grippy pad on something.

Added: After considering this some more, I think this is one of those silicone rubber pads to keep things from sliding off your dashboard.
