It is a clock made from vertebras of a dolphins skeleton I found burried in the sand on the wesrcost of Iceland some years ago. See picture.

Looks like a cross section of a piece of bone. Taking the number into account, I would guess this is an educational display in a museum or school.

A numbered museum exhibit? I can't figure out any other reason a piice of bone (or shell or antler) would have a number attached.
