 Taken at the Brevard Zoo in Melbourne Florida. I forgot to look at the sign to see what this bird is called. I took hundreds of photo's and spent hours looking through them before deciding on this particular photo for my entry. :)


Well, here is my first 4. I certainly appreciate all of the comments that were written. After looking at my bird on another monitor I can see how it must appear darker to others than it shows on mine. I will need to have my monitor calibrated. There are many more challenges ahead and I will focus my learning ability towards those challenges and look back at this one as a lesson well learned. Watching the score of this bird decline throughout the weekend brought to mind standing on the deck of the Titanic,watching, as the last life boat was lowered into the water only half full of passengers.

Too dark for me. Perhaps with more negative space the colors would pop more and I wouldn't focus so much on the darkness of it.

Sorry but this is just too dark/underexposed and poorly lit, guess you used the onboard flash for this one? Try opening up the aperture, up the iso, longer shutter, whatever it takes to get some more ambient lighting in this one.

This is a beautiful bird portrait. I like how the vibrant colors are coming out of the dark. Makes it pop in my opinion. Diagonal composition works very well and I am amazed you actually caught some catch light in the eyes. Which is half the battle.

To be honest, there's too little here. I am looking at this on a calibrated monitor and suspect there is detail in the darks that I'm missing.
