I hope this meets the challenge criteria. My idea is the flame is hanging on by a thread against the wind.

I am pleased just to have entered something for this challenge as I felt the title was a tough one.

While I was looking through some birthday photos, I came across a blowing out of the candles photo. I noticed one or two stubborn candles that did not want to go out. Then it hit me that this could make a decent subject for the challenge.

My set up was fairly simple. A candle, black paper for the background and a desk lamp for lighting. I took hundreds of photos with the flame almost going out.

I settled on this photo because I like the detail in the wick, its glowing end and the smoke wrapping around it, with the flame hanging on in the background.

For PP I cropped, lowered the contrast to enhance the smoke, lowered the exposure half a stop, lowered the vibrance, bumped up the saturation for the flame, and added some fill light also to help the smoke.

I absolutely love the image. The precise focus and the wick detail really appeal to me. In a free study, I'd give it an 8, possibly. But I'm not getting the connection tothe challenge theme.

Not sure on what to say here because I like this image as the blue area of the flame and the wick of the candle are great! However, I know how tough it is to capture a great flame but, the blown out part of it just kind of leaves it a bit unflattering. How to fix that? I really don't know because I struggle with flames as well and just don't try to enter them anymore (until I get the hang of capturing it properly...think there's a tutorial on that somewhere in here...gotta look that up)
