My entry for the Posthumous challenge. Not anything weird, but I was very pleased with this one and didn't have a shoehorn that was not in a challenge.

Spotted at a WWII reenactment for veterans day. Not her car, but it sure did match her period attire.

I may have been better to stand back a couple more feet to avoid clipping the ends of the car off, however I think that imperfection also serves to give this the air of a 40's vintage snapshot.

Most of the adjustments to this were done in Canon DPP. I went for some strong saturation that I thought had a touch of a hand colored look to it. Not sure if it came off quite that way, but I think the coloring looks appropriate.

The only bit of the 21st century that made it into the frame was a bit of a bright red stop sign that was peeking out over the top of the car. Fortunately, it had trees behind it, so was easy to clone out. (Well, the purse may or may not be period appropriate, but it's what she was carrying that day!)

When I resized to 720 pixels it made her face look a little odd, so I also did some dodging and minor editing to her face.

I also did one of my new favorite adjustments on it, to bring out detail from shadows and highlights:

-Duplicate layer
-Desaturate duplicate layer
-Negative image duplicate layer
-Gaussian blur of 4 on duplicate layer
-Overlay layers
-Manually adjust overlay to desired amount and merge layers.

I've saved this procedure as a script for PaintShop Pro. If anyone would like it, I have it uploaded here: Negative layer technique.PspScript

Also, note the hood ornament of this vehicle, which was the subject of my "Periodic table" entry.

You really did a great job on capturing the era. Nice job Spiff.

I think to really make this faux snapshot-ish, I'd rather have seen her look toward you, or be doing something unconscious (picking a bit of lint from her sweater, etc.). But as a record of the event it's a fine shot and you did a good job getting the background to not seem out of period.

yo, there's a sense here of everybody and everything standing around to be photographed. This takes some energy and interest out of it for me (or maybe it's just because I generally don't like cars). But she looks great!

This reminds me of Eggleston but more squared off "a la DPC". Interesting.

Terrific find! Looks like she just drove her car out of a time warp.

Great find and great job capturing it to get that period feel to it. You might also try scratching it up a bit with either an overlay or some sort of editing tool, but I like this one the way it is.

What a cool find. My fave part is all the colors in it. The sky is beautiful. I love how her outfit matches this car (even tho it is not hers lol)
