Coiled and ready to strike.

I didn't reset iso from shooting at 1600 earlier, so it is a bit grainy. I was a bit unnerved by the buzz of the rattles which you can see just to the left of the head of the snake.

The snake was about 5 1/2 ft (1.5 M) long, and in the wild. I was about 6 or 7 ft from it when I shot this.

For those familiar with them, this one had 8 and a button. They used to be very common when I was in high school 40 years ago, but now they are relatively rare at this size or larger.

Excellent shot! Wow! Scary!
They say if you hear a rattle you are too close and to walk in the opposite direction. I wouldn't have the guts to take a photo!

Great motion on that rattle! I'd be running for the hills! Maybe a little more contrast would have that tongue popping out at you.

Yikes, I didn't know I had to watch out for those things here in FL. Not only can I see its tongue, but I can see its rattles too. Good shot.
