used a Canon 300mm I was renting at the time; I like the pattern the brickwork and moss form in the background and how it adds to the composition.

this is a mourning dove, from the pigeon family; easily startled and skittish, I'm surprised I even got near it with a ginormous lens without it taking off mid-picture.

You didn't need to apologize, I like it too. I like how the pigeon's shape follows the ~~~ pattern which is abruptly disconnected by zig-zags which seem to go well with layered feathers on the wing ;-)

i really like mourning doves! even when it sounds like they're barfing outside my window in the morning. i so don't understand, even, even with all my experience, how this could score how it did. i woulda thought it at least sharp enough for the kneejerks. ugh. sorry. but trust me, it's a pretty.

The title is a great attitude to have, as you may be getting killed by low votes on this one. It's a nice close shot of the bird, with lots of detail showing and a great bokeh background. Hard lighting is probably what's hurting it the most. In spite of that, you maintained some good detail in both the shadows and highlights..

nice dof, the composition feels a little awkward to me though, maybe positioning the bird further right as where it is kinda leads my eye out of the photo

Seems a bit uninteresting... although you did well on the sharpness of the eye. Perhaps cropping off some of the right side would make it more interesting... (not voting yet)
