I shot this with one flash to my left, shot though a screen to soften it, and a fill light from my camera (also diffused, and dropped 2 stops). I used a high aperture to control the ambient light, and used the flash to light his face the way I wanted it lit.
In Aperture, I bumped the contrast slightly, desaturated slightly, brightened shadows, and did the default noise reduction and sharpening. In Photoshop, I added a gradient layer to map a hard light at 60% opacity, tweaked levels, and bumped the contrast a little bit more. I sharpened the eyes a little more, but they still look a little watery to me. |
