Hey there from the Critique Club
Camera Work/Technical: Great job stopping the action in the shot. That 1/4000 shutter speed did this one justice. I also like the low noise you managed, even with an ISO of 640. Your background coloring is also very nice, and is one of strengths of the image.
Lighting: The backlighting you managed here is spectacular. I like the glow you caught in the wings, as well as the nicely silhouetted figure of the bird.
Composition/Content: I think that I will agree with Pedro in that the image would have been even stronger with some of the negative space and color graduation cropped from the bottom. Perhaps a square crop would have worked better than the light that falls into darkness at the bottom.
My Opinion: 6.27 is a very strong score, and I think that it was an appropriate score for this image. Looking through the challenge entries for this one, I believe that your entry placed appropriately.
Thank you for the opportunity to provide a critique on your entry,
Eric

awesome shot. I love how the birds wingtips are translucent like that. |

Very very nice. I probably would have cropped out the negative space at the bottom, but otherwise, this is wonderful. |

Love the silhouette!
My first instinct is to turn my head. I realize that turning the image clockwise would dump the poor guy's nest, but it's a much more eye pleasing photo that way. You know that the nest would be crooked, but others don't. Add a vignette to balance what is now the left side of the photo, and blamo!
I think you'll finish strongly no matter what, because of the silhouette, colors, and texture. |

Wow, super cool! Very different from anything I've seen yet, and I like it a lot, especially how the light comes through the end of the feathers. Would love to learn how you did this. |

love the idea, the composition and the colour. It just misses the startling clarity and sharpness necessary to make it great. Comes close though - good luck |

I have one word... "Yes"... 10 from me. Reason: You, and some other in this challenge, have something extra to offer besides a sunrise/set, and that should score extra points. ESPECIALLY when it is as succesfull as this! |
