this is the original image ..

the processed version looks like this ..

might'v gone a bit dark ..
but death can be seen as a dark thing ..

the story ..
there's a bush on the firetrail where a lot of monarch butterflies seem to gather, but when i get close enough to photograph them they fly away .. there are other insects on the bush and as i was looking at them i noticed this bullant with the bee .. he was working his way down the bush towards the ground .. sometimes dropping from one branch to another .. he didnt stop moving for a second so he was very difficult to photograph .. probably got two where his eye was in focus .. you can see the blur on one of his legs ..

the bull-ant would be about 3/4" or 15mm long ..

Holy cow this is huge. I've seen my share of ants, they're my favorite insect, and this is scary. The big ones around here get to about 2cm long, that one must be closer to 4 or 5cm. I see why your bite stung for so long. Give a whole new meaning to picnics for me b/c they would be a thing of the past with ants that size.

Thanks for posting.

This reminds me of a documentary I saw a few weeks ago where a swarm of hornets would enter a bee hive and completely obliterate the hive by cutting the bees in half with its jaws. It cut them up like they were nothing, one chomp and they would move on to another. The swarm massacred the whole hive in a few hours time, thousands of bees, only to feast on the remains. mmm
