I put some meat pieces out at sunset and waited for the birds to come. I kept waiting, and waiting, and waiting.
I then gave up and asked my husband to get me some bread - wham! They were everywhere, but they were moving fast and I was limited by the maximum flash sync on the D80. Actually, this one was taken at 1/160 rather than the max of 1/200 for some reason, but not too much in the way of motion blur.
I think we have a reputation with the birds of the neighbourhood now, because I can't get rid of them :)

I was not able to vote on this challenge, but if I had, I probably would have given you a 5 or 6. It is fairly obvious that you could not have gotten this photograph without a flash, as the light in the sky is coming from behind your subject. In that respect, you have entered a photograph that fits the theme very well. I do like the unusual crop, with the sky taking up the majority of the photo, because again, it emphasizes that there are 2 light sources at play.
Two areas for improvement: I find the crop a little awkward on the left hand side as it barely clipping the birds wing, and does not give the impression of being intentional. The birds face also looks like it could be a little sharper. It can be hard to get with all that squaking and flapping :)
If you need any clarification on any of my comments, please feel free to pm me. It might take some time for me to get back to you.
very nice photograph .. somehow I was wondering why did you leave so much of negative space .. but then saw the sun at the corner and then remembered the title of the challenge :) .. you have captured the action nicely
This is a really nice shot, the detail in the bird is great and background is very fitting.
Just two comments. First is what looks like bread, which I'm assuming you used to attract the bird in the first place, it's a little distracting in the scene, though I'm not too sure how you would avoid it. Second is that there is no gap between the tip of the birds wing and the edge of the frame. It would have been nice to have just a little more space there.
Other than that, great shot, well done! 7 from me.
