Brandt's Cormorants nesting at Point Lobos, CA. The thick guano white wash is a collection from many years that the colony has resided year round on this island. The blue on the throats is present only during the breeding season. The nests are seaweed saucers. You can watch males bringing seaweed offerings to their mates who reward each offering with a few minutes of very loving necking.

Post processing: in canon file viewer varied parameters for raw until I got an image I liked, then in photoshop, crop, usm, resize while saving for web.

That's much better mate!
Sorry for the harsh comment before, I'm glad it helped though :)
Now it looks way better..Though now the opposites are less obvious.
Keep trying, you're getting better :)

Wonderful idea - the concept of black and white comes across beautifully. The composition and position of the birds within the frame is a little haphazard, and I'm not quite able to follow the lines as well as possible. I think a closer crop with only the right five birds with allowing the diagonal line of the ground to lead the eye might work a bit better.

Your image has a nice overall feeling - and it's a nice idea for opposites. Composition wise - the upper left corner should be removed. Post processing - the contrast seems a bit high.

Still a good opposite entry.

Interesting - it seems like the birds have been "punched-out" of the image to reveal a black background. Black vs. white. Organic vs. inorganic. Smooth/flat texture (birds) vs. grainy texture (texture). Overall, I think all of your visual cues are working together to support the "opposite" concept.

The rocks are overexposed - looses the detail and texture. The birds are underexposed, also loosing detail. It's a nice composition otherwise.

Very very difficult subject against those light rocks...The whole photographs feels overexposed and the birds suffer from lack of detail.

Improvements that I would like to see...UV lens. This is way too bright/fried from the bright sunshine. Needs some more contrast. Also I think a tighter crop since it's just rocks repeated. Best of luck in the challenge.
