This is my first challenge entry since a trip to South East Asia, actually it is the first time that I have picked up my camera since I got back. Vietnam had such a profound effect on me emotionally and spiritually that I have found myself reassessing the priorities in life and unfortunately photography has slipped down the list.

Now what is this shot all about? Well first of all I had to meet the challenge description hence the little metal dude which is a watch maker’s tool I think? It always reminds me of a human. But what is he doing and what is the title all about?

I have tried to show the discrepancy of man conquering nature as apposed to living with nature which in my opinion the latter should be the case. My time in third world countries has given me a strong sense of how I want to live my life and I hope to portray that in my photography from now on.

My prediction: I always strive to beat my average score but I think that this will fall short of that, hopefully it will be a 5.5 If I was voting this shot in this challenge I think I would vote a 5 or maybe a 6 if I was generous.

Thanks for viewing.

Greetings from the Critique Club...

I was not able to vote on this challenge, but if I had, I probably would have given you a 6.

At first I thought you made the little person, but after having read your comments, I see that is not the case. I'm a fan of clean and simple photographs, and therefore I do like this image. I'm not quite sure what the message is here. I understand the tool feels free and is ready to take on the world, but I'm wondering if you could have chosen a scene which better relates to the tool itself. As it stands, the two seem very seperated in an emotional/environmental sense. I'm not saying the tool has to be in its native environment to be a good photograph, I just think some of the other images in the challenge who chose that route were rewarded for doing so.

If you need any clarification on any of my comments, please feel free to pm me. It might take some time for me to get back to you.

I want one of these things. They are very popular in this challenge.

this is one of my favs in this challenge. I appreciate the eye of details such as the tree tops to show just enough of the surrounding. It elevates the conquerer :)
