 A good friend of mine asked me to take some family photos and I jumped at the chance because a)she's a single mom and has had an incredibly tough year for many reasons (and you can tell there's some sadness there) the photo session was my gift to her and b)the whole family is very photogenic and for a long time I wanted to get them in a session

Shot in her home using two strobes (left and upper right) and back lit with ambient light.

Editing: Correct exposure in RAW, Stamp out fluffs and stray hairs, Gradient Map BW conversion and mask for the eyes, skin smoothing using selective gaussian blur and high pass filter to retain detail, selective USM, Crop.

Thanks for all the votes! My first free study.

Not sure why the blue showed up in the eyes..I'll have to trace my steps back but I am assuming it was in processing somewhere where I isolated the eyes and retain the eye color.

And the girls are actually mother and daughter. Mom currently has this photo (and others) printed and hanging in the Spa she owns. So I'm happy.

This is a beautiful portrait and the B&W works perfectly. What's holding me from giving it a higher score is the slight color in the eyes. Pure B&W would have worked better, IMO. 7

twins? definetly sisters. too bad the front girl is a teeny bit oof, i like how xurious they look. good "hopeful" capture.
