 'Utsukushii' means 'beautiful'.

My wife and I love Japanese architecture and style.. Our living room, dining room and back yard have a major Japanese influence to them. It certainly wasn't difficult coming up with objects to photograph. :)

This is a Japanese-inspired vase that we normally have on our china cabinet in our dining room. Behind it is a shoji-screen end table which has a light inside it. These are all sitting on our dining room table.

I really wanted to focus on beautiful lighting in this shot. There is an SB-600 inside the end table firing out, which illuminates the shoji-screen. There is an SB-800 just behind the vase which gives that light flowing out from behind the vase. There is also a studio light to the right of the vase... The light has a yellow tinge to it.

Overall, I like the intermingling of light and colours in this photo. It's almost difficult to pick out details, especially in the vase because everything just kind of flows together.

This is one of my Advanced editing challenges in a while because of DPCO-III.. Kind of nice not to have as many constraints.

Editing was mostly colour/luminance levels, but I did heal out some dust spots on the table and a few smaller bright spots. Also burned to the right side of the table. All of this was done in Lightroom 2, then final UM, resize, border and Save For Web was done in the GIMP.
