This is an outtake from the Asia challenge. I thought the one I entered fit the challenge better but I like this one a lot too.

The other day I did a shoot with Tiffany and she shouted "We have to do a shoot in the pond!" I thought she meant on/around the pond, but she definitely meant IN the pond. I thought that would be awesome but it was so cold that I didn't really give it a second thought. Then the Asia challenge came up and I thought that asian girl in a Koi pond might make a good concept for that, so I called her over. I did have a softbox going off, but its reflection in the water was a little problematic so I ended up putting it on a very low setting, so it probably didn't effect the lighting here much at all. I also used a polarizer filter to altar the reflections on the water. I shot this from the roof of my house and it was one of the first shots I got. I wanted to get a shot of her underwater but the spashes and reflections made it impossible to see her face and I thought it would probably be important to show that she is asian, at least for the challenge. In the end, this one was the strongest of the bunch. No koi were hurt and after Tiffany was in the water for a bit they weren't even that scared. We got lucky with the weather because it was in the 70s, but the water was still pretty cold and Tiffany had to take a hot shower and I fed her hot chocolate and then hot tea as she snuggled in a blanket while we looked through the photos. Despite freezing her it was really fun.

Here are some other shots from the shoot:

An image which reminds me of an old poem by Ryota:

"No one spoke,
The host, the guest,
The white chrysanthemums."

Claire, this is amazing! So exotic and unique. And what a great story to go with how you and Tiffany came up with these photo. She's a fabulous model. SHE is a PRO! And so are you!

This is magnificent - the framing, the movement in the water and the somewhat subdued colors. I love it.

wonderful shot! i love how she seems to have become one of them, telling by her body language anyways.
i wondered if you didn't get into trouble with the local authorities until i read it's actually your pond.
and i hope no koi's were harmed or killed in the making of this shot, i heard these guys are rather expensive to refund...;)

This is lovely. I like the color and the gracefulness of Tiffany and the fish.
