|I spent more time on this challenge than any other so far. I have soooo many outtakes it's crazy! I shot sushi, dried soba, cooked soba, soy sauce, and finally this salmon sashimi, which I was most happy with in the end. I just hope that westerners' aversion to raw fish doesn't hurt my score.
I went searching my parents' place for a leaf to set onto the plate to tie the dish into the background, and the only thing I could find was this young leaf off a zucchini (courgette) plant. It was a bit spiky, but it was the closest thing I could find to shiso leaves, which is what I had visualised.
I lit this with a shoot through umbrella and my SB-600 behind the subject, and slightly camera left. I had a large silver reflector in front of the plate for fill at camera right.
I really like this in the end, and I hope it does well. More food for my profile page? I hope so!
