I spent more time on this challenge than any other so far. I have soooo many outtakes it's crazy! I shot sushi, dried soba, cooked soba, soy sauce, and finally this salmon sashimi, which I was most happy with in the end. I just hope that westerners' aversion to raw fish doesn't hurt my score.

I went searching my parents' place for a leaf to set onto the plate to tie the dish into the background, and the only thing I could find was this young leaf off a zucchini (courgette) plant. It was a bit spiky, but it was the closest thing I could find to shiso leaves, which is what I had visualised.

I lit this with a shoot through umbrella and my SB-600 behind the subject, and slightly camera left. I had a large silver reflector in front of the plate for fill at camera right.

I really like this in the end, and I hope it does well. More food for my profile page? I hope so!

Clean, neat in composition, basically fantastic! Well done!

I'd probably want seconds though if I ate this, if you know what I mean ;-)

This is a great photo. Its a picture of plated food that doesnt make me feel like I'm deciding what to order for lunch. The chopsticks going off to the right also makes the eye wander around the image so that I didnt just keep staring at the delicious looking sashimi =)

Lovely tones, shapes, and textures. A tad flat though.

Nicely composed, uncluttered, good colours. But I don't like the way the chopsticks break out of the frame.
