To me, the metaphor is basketball (I'm a bit more literal). Basketball doesn't pay so it's time to move on. (And he's obviously not tall enough anyway.)

The central aspect work well here and its a great B&W conversion. I'd either like the sweet spot to be on his face or the cross but not a fan of it on the tree (or are my eyes failing me?).

Steve has a Lensbaby? That can only mean trouble!

Good trouble, of course. I like the thought and story you put behind this. It has a good candid, voyeuristic feel, and I like that his face is just on the fringes of the sweet spot versus dead center inside it.

Nice cross. You can shoot some hoops on it as well. Sort of a dual-purpose device. The church being more relevant, I suppose.
