 This is composed of three differently exposed images, but instead of combining them in Photomatix as I usually do, I put them as three different layers in one image in Photoshop and just masked out parts of each image until I got the blend I wanted. This method takes a long time but can yield great results!

You really ended up with a nice result. Sometimes it just takes a lot of work to get what you want in processing.

This is marvelous! It reminds me of my nephew's art sunset shots of the local wild coast.
