 This is Alexandra Helga, Miss Iceland 2008, she was also the model in my november free study last year. Me, her and her boyfriend Þorsteinn went for a 9 hour drive/photoshoot that day, went out at 9am in the morning and were back in Reykjavík about 6pm. We went to Vík wich is about 2 hours away and then stopped at a couple of places to take photos, it was a very dark day, overcast and gloomy clouds, just like I wanted for these particular shots. I didn´t really shoot this for the challenge but I was aware of it and since the shoe fits, well you get my drift.

Ambient light only.

Post challenge edit: The shot is taken on January 2nd so of course it was cold but still it was unsesonably warm that day, about 5 degrees celcius above zero so she survived the few minutes this took, after all she has got viking blood in her.

I didnt vote on this challenge but glad to see you entered. I love the cool tones, but the greatest thing is how the bokeh is really smooth, yet you can still see the peninsula or island in the background without merging into a soup of colors. Great work, as always.

So it was you !! how cold was it that morning? Maybe you Icelanders are so used to the cold that 20F feels like a beach day. Grat picture, as always.

I love the DOF and how the background has a natural tonal gradiant from light at the top to dark at the bottom. I wish there was a little more light on her face. I normally don't like cool portraits, but I think the blue tones suit the mood of this image. Very nice.

This is a great photo. The contrast between her skin tones, the white dress and the blues in the background gives the photo a very interesting mood.

It it wasn't because it is winter time in Iceland I would bet this is a LARUS (with his famous 1.2 lens), unless it really is Larus forcing her to pretend she is not freezing. Great picture. I am not voting because I am in the race. I'd give it a 9 if I was voting (10 for her expression if I knew it is ice and snow in the background instead of ocean and waves). Of course, it is possible Larus could be vacationing somewhere in the southern hemisphere. We'll see.

Interesting take with the skin tones and white dress so powerful and in the front of the composition and the sand so secondary (although plentiful). I like the DOF with the mysterous hills in the background.

Ribbon Contender...and IMO, way ahead of anything else I've seen so far! Larus???

Love the choice of volcanic sand (different) and white for the dress to contrast well against the dark and cool tones. 8
