 A re-do of my May 2008 free study entry ... entered a different frame and comp of this shot, which did not do as well as I anticipated. After the challenge, I circulated this shot around which generated a few nice comments. So I thought I would give it another go in the "Best of" challenge.

I had originally entered something else from my Quebec trip, and thought about an alternate Yosemite pic or a pic from Death Valley, but the fact of the matter is there is no way to pick a single shot that is the "best of" the year, and if I had to do it it would probably be a family snapshot that has no meaning to anyone but me and my family!

So here is a shot that I think has a chance to be one of the "best scores of" 2008. 'nuff said. I'm sure it will tank like all the rest.

Nice contrast between the foreground and background. The background ended up getting a little pix elated but overall a very pleasing shot. 7

Moonrise and the last of the setting sun - or is it the other end of the day? Anyway, I like the lush foreground interest and the sense of stillness :)

I think you have achieved a lovely balance here. Apart from the sun setting on the peak this should not be an interesting scene - but you have made it very interesting. Lovely.

I really like the green in the foreground that leads you to the mountain (Yosemite??) Then the moon as a bonus...great capture, good color balance

this is a nice study of detail vs. the big picture. everything has its place in nature, I guess. good mix of colors--especially w/ the sunlit mountain.

beautiful capture, but i think the focus should be a bit more aimed at half dome. maybe a bit more room at the left would have centered the rock more( i know, screw the rule of thirds). my fav part of this whole photo is the tiny moon off in the distance
