I appreciate all of the comments thus far - I am counting on you to point me in the right directions re: my photography - Thanks much

Yes Zoomdak - the off balance was intentional
Yes I admit - the focus is a bit soft

Glen King - this kid is a basketball player (freshman team) ball was not his choice but mine

Dave Gordon - thanks Dave - that was my intent exactly

Miss Mouse - thanks for pointing that out - the reflection

Moodville - yes Moodville that was my intention - Thanks for your thoughtful critique

I find it interesting that it's not level. Adds good perspective, but also makes it seem off balence. Nice capture, cool pose.

Looks like a small amount of camera shake in your image.

The red contrasts nicely with the rest of the picture, but everything looks slightly out of focus, and the tilt to me doesn't really help the shot.

I like your color selection. My question is only, wouldn't you expect a kid this age to be playing with a basketball instead? Nicely done though.

The tilt should have been removed.

I like the use of black and white with a spot of color - it really emphasizes the ball and somehow makes the black-and-white even more so by contrast.

I really like this photo - first that bright red ball draws you in and then you start looking around - I especially like the reflection in the ball.

It has a somewhat surreal look to it. The dappled lighting on the wall is good, and the mix of color and black and white is interesting. Having him sit in the hallway is good, but the tilted line of the step gives the image a skewered look (unless that was your intention). The focus is a little soft, possibly due to low light and/or him moving when the shot was taken.

I like the red ball, but what i do not like is the reflections...try a polarizer next time...

Cool!
But I really think you should rotate the pic to get the floor horizontal. As it is, that detail grabs a lot of the attention away from the subject.

It might be worth straightening the floor line.
