Week 2 Entry for Archive Photo a Week
Archive Photo a Week Thread

Took this shot in February of 2008. I didnt look at any of the photos from that day until just a month ago, and found several gems. This is the most recent one I processed from that bunch.

The image is an HDR conversion of 5 images. Aside from that, layers for Levels, Contrast and Hue/Saturation (to desat a bit).

Edit to respond to Melethia's comment:

I used the burn tool to darken the end of the lane, trying to get a more ominous look to the destination in the photo. I will try to re-edit the photo again, and bring that detail back out, see which one I like best. Thank you for your feedback :D

The increase in contrast really makes this pop. While you lost a bit of detail in the shadows, I think it's a huge improvement over the original. The darker area in the middle adds a bit of mystery to it.

The editing really brought this to life! One thing you may want to look at - the end of the lane. You said you used HDR and five images, but the detail at the end of the lane from the original is lost in the edit. The original you posted has more detail than the finished version and it might be nice to add just a bit of that back in.

Good use of the HDR technique to make the photo look more like what we'd see if we were there than what the camera can capture.

Love the leading line of the snow. The linear quality of the whole thing is great - outstanding contrasts.

Beautiful result from your processing. The trees now lead the eye to those in the bg in a way that those in the original one did not.

Gorgeous! Those whites glow without being blown in the least. The closing in of the trees is very ominous.
