Tristian Tobar, new marine and wife. I met her in Pensacola, FL when I went to visit my firend Juliana on baseat NAS. They were really good friends and she was newly engaged to another Marine. I think she is 18 or 19. She was shipped off to another base and Juliana hasn't seen or even spoken with her since.
I just took a snapshot of her drinking some coffee at IHOP and was suprised at how nice it looked. I also really enjoy the fact that her eyes match the bit of bokeh in the background. Not too much editing done, dodged and burned the heck out of her eyes, curves, blurred the background slightly, cloned a hair off of her face and some little bumps off of her forehead, a little contrast, smart sharpen, border, and resize.
I don't think this will score very high, mostly because there will be A LOT of amazing portraits in this challenge and while this one is nice, it isn't amazing...but I still like it :)

I'll disagree with Enzo here - I think this is indeed strong enough to be a "Best of 2008" - it's real, it's warm, and it's really quite good. |

PostLuminous Award Nominee!
A stunningly beautiful and simple, natural, spontaneous portrait. |

The eyes are very well processed but you forgot to process the rest of the pic. This makes it look a little odd to me. |

I can see the smile in her eyes. Composed well and shows her personality. Excellent colors. 7 |

Wonderful sparkle in the eyes. Soft side lighting works well. Nice off center composition. 10 |

Great eyes, but I find the cup covering the face distracting |

nice candid, beautiful eyes, but unfortunately not strong enough for a best of 2008 image...sorry :( |

You already know this, but the eyes are captured perfectly here - I wander about the image, coming back again and again to her eyes. Captivating. |
