It's spring and most trees and plants are blooming which gave me the inspiration to do this shot. I had to find an old leaf from last winter and cut off a few new leaves from a tree in the park.

I used a frosted glass with a bit of green tint for background. I tried to avoid shadows and reflections but still there are a few that are noticeable.

Shot in raw mode with natural lighting from a window.

Adjusted white balance, exposure and saturation during conversion to TIFF.

Post-processing:
rotate image 90 deg CW
levels/curve adjustment
colour adjustment
crop
resize

Canon 50mm prime.

the exposure on the subjects and their detail and contrasts are very fine. The background color leaves my cold.......gotta light box (me neither) white or black or really and solid rich color would have been better.

Very sharp and clean image and good idea. What distracts is the background.

Really nice picture. It perfectly captures the essence of opposites in theme, color, size, and contrast.

Your new life has just died...lol. Would have put the new leaf coming from the edge or with a longer branch. Other than that, composition is nice.

Beautiful detail and frame. Young small green leaves vs. old large brown leaf. You captured "opposite" and all of your visual cues support each other. I like your figure vs. ground, too.

Not enough contrast between the green and brown... The background also competes with the image - might help to crop more tightly so there's less background.

would have been a more dramatic shot if the leaves were still attached to the tree.

I think a different color background would have made a big difference. But, I love the idea.

And then you killed it to put it on the dead leaf...

Just kidding, I like this.
