Thanks Waddy, for taking a look at this. It's actually not a shadow, it's a tree branch. It took me a while but I finally got the camera to focus in on the bird and get the branch oof. Here's an un-edited similar version

These birds are just amazing, I can't even imagine how you would feel seeing them in the wild. I would suggest a crop that puts the Eagle more to the right of the frame, possibly on the thirds line. As for cloning out the out of focus branch, it is possible but I suspect takes a lot of patience. Cloning things out is not my strong point, so I can feel your frustration!

These guys don't stick around long when they see you with a camera either. Nicely done!

Like the others said with that branch cloned out it would be a nice shot. Especially against that white background

I'd definitely start a'cloning, maybe trying cloning luminosity only (if you have that option). If the shadows made an interesting pattern I'd keep them, but just the one like that isn't doing anything for me. Very cool shot of the Eagle, though. I'm always thrilled to get one!

I would be so thrilled to get an eagle shot like this! Such a nice simple background. Interesting that he is looking over the frozen water like he forgot where he put his ice skates. :) Others have given good suggestions. Great capture!

Birds generally don't make good models, do they? Always moving around and flying off when you get the camera set right... (well, that's me anyway.) Nice shots, Jess. I would likely clone out the branch as well. Of course if I were Art Roflmao, I would just replace it with Godzilla.

You've got some neat Eagle shots Jess. I like seeing the Eagle against the white background of the ice. On this one I would try dodging the branch a bit and if that doesn't do it then I would try cloning it out like Jedusi said.

Jess - I would suggest the best way to lose the shadow is to clone it out. Also in terms of composition the Eagle is sitting in a bit of an odd place - not quite central, not quite on a third . . I would suggest considering a square crop with him towards the bottom right of the picture, and the water going out of the picture right on the corner.

Good looking birds though - looks like you had a good day with them !

I am not sure what I would do about the shadow across the image here. It looks like the shadow of a telephone pole because it is straight. You were shooting in tough conditions with the huge contrast of the snow and the bird, and overcast, and you made it look pretty good. You didn't post shooting info with this shot. I have found that at 300 mm, I have to shoot at 1/1500 or faster to get sharp hand held images. I also noticed that my favorite birding glass, the 300 4.5 Nikkor is not as sharp as I would like it to be when shooting at 4.5, so I have to stop down to 5.6.
That's why I use a monopod for most of my tele shots.
