Hard to believe that only three blocks away from the million + dollar victorian mansion shown in the previous image is this deteriorating, POS abandoned skating rink. Socorro is a strange little town...
This is another drive-by, using the 0.6x wide angle attachment. No cropping, just ran shadow/highlight since the original is so underexposed, then Color Efex Pro tonal contrast, bi-color filters, and levels adjustment. I did a b&w version and loved the grittiness of it, but missed the red skates :-)
As an aside, I'm very careful when I do these drive-bys. Generally I'm on some podunk 2-lane street with a 25mph speed limit and no other cars in sight. With the lensbaby I prepare the focus before I start driving and then just point my camera out the car window, click off a lot of shots without looking through the viewfinder, and hope for the best. I can't count how many duds I get; car interiors, blown-out skies, nothing in focus, you name it :-) But then some very rare times I get something in focus with some odd, off-kilter framing that I never ever would have thought of composing on my own, like this silly image.

Thought you were more of a 'burn your village' man than a drive by shooter Art!

Colleen, am glad your are an (almost) safe drive-by shooter, 100 duds to get a couple of keepers is a decent average. After doing Karen's krnodil Pinhole SC in November I find I can compose a shot quite well without looking through the viewfinder these days and am sure your hit ratio of duds to keepers will improve ;)

This image rocks btw!

Been a quite few shots I missed b/c I couldn't stop or was too afraid to b/c of the neighborhood I was in. you have a knack for the hip shot gems, this is nice and I love the retro look!

I like your musing on the drive-by process. I have a feeling that all photography would be improved if it was unintentional, or at least unpremeditated. Maybe cameras should have no viewfinders at all? Some of my best images happened with little help from me.

We should do a drive by challenge. There are so many things I see when driving around but never pull over, mainly because there's not a place to do so...or I'm afraid someone will come out with a gun and shoot me.

Oh...and it seems like you live in a cool little town.

Interesting shot. I still lament the standard focal distance of my 3G and will have to try the wide angle attachment, which I don't have, for a little more view.
Good to keep that camera at the ready. You'll never know when you may have a opportunity for a UFO photo!
