Wood storks. They landed about 30 ft from where they took off. Their local name is "Iron heads" due to the color of their heads. They were down to only 1,100 about 25 years ago, but are getting more common now.
Manual 300mm f4.5, hand held at f4.5, iso 400, 1/2000.

I wish that this one had turned out as good.

Nice composition and capture! I don't see these around here much. They're heads are ugly like dinosaurs! Great shot!

Never heard of these birds before - learn something new every day! I do get a feeling of the ugliness of their heads from this - it contrasts so strangely with the elegancy (sic?) of their bodies!

Neat colors on these. Wish we had such bird abundance here this time of year.

Their wings are pretty! Just their heads are a bit unpretty. From a distance in flight I bet they look lovely.

These are about the ugliest birds around. If you judge them by their heads that is. Their plumage is quite striking.

Beautiful birds. I love their two toned wings. Nice capture of the wing positions.

Fortunately our beautiful birds outnumber the ugly birds, Waddy. Your out-take with the alligned storks is still quite good... looks like a choreographed dance.
