I have always seen this tree on the hill near a roundabout and thought to myself "I'll shoot that one day".. well I guess this is the day.. I go there and the sky was not playing ball with me, all grey and crappy, by the time I had parked the car and walked to the spot (30 mins) the sky had performed a little natural photoshop for me, although not perfect it is way better than at first so here it is. Might not do very well as it is not eye-catching

The placement of the tree and the slope of the land and how much sky is around create a feeling of extreme expanse. Great finish and great image.

On the contrary, I think it's very eye-catching ;-) The simplicity and the muted colours make it one of the best in this challenge for me. Good one, MAK. Congrats on top 10.

Shame about the aeroplane trail thru the sky, when the sky is such a dominant part of the picture, but very nice photo.

a lot of sky negative space it would have scored higher than a 6 if 2/3 the sky was gone for me

My favorite minimalist tree in the challenge - I really like the way you've brought out the color and texture in the foreground.

I really like this one. Personally, I may have composed the tree not in the middle. Great light falling on the hill.

This is a nice pic, the scope is grand and I love the colors. I don't feel that the tree itself is symmetrical enough to really pop with center positioning, I would prefer it off to a side.

Strong composition. Simple and quite effective. Love the diagonal line in the sky - it adds a lot to the image.

why to much sky...would have liked this better if the tree wasn't "centered", otherwise good capture

I like the minimalist look. And an extra point for using my favourite book as the title.

Great looking shot, shame about the vapour trail but then I'm sure you'll get some positive comments about it.

Epic. I'm sure this tree has a story to tell...

Only he remained. His companions had been removed years ago, killed brutally by men with axes and saws...but somehow, inexplicably, only he was left, on his hill, to watch over what had once been their domain...it was a lonely life, that of a single tree...

The colors are fabulous.

Great capture, only wish the tree wasn't so centered.

I like the use of a square crop in this case, serene looking scene

my son says that this should have a thousand points on the scale of 1 thru 10. so I had better give you a 10. Love the negative space, the setting is gorgeous, sharp and clean shot. well done

One of my favourites. It looks like a painting to me, something by Andrew Wyeth maybe.
