This was taken in Virginia on Rte. 11 south of Lexington, north of Buchanan. It's just an oak on the side of the road, stuck there all alone on a small ridge that runs along the road, the cut for which exposed the stone. This was minimally edited in IrfanView & GIMP - crop, rotate, contrast adjustments, gamma adjustments, resize, USM.

I knew a tree that I wanted to photograph off of the interstate before you get to Waynesboro on the way to Charlottesville, but I missed the spot on the way by. Then I saw another tree just down the road a quarter mile. I pulled over the shoot, and the tenacious "safety patrol" was pulled up within a minute's time. Anyway, that stop yielded no good shots - I don't do well under pressure like that.

I can't figure this out. The upsidedown tree doesn't do it for me.

This is a VERY interesting image. Not sure if it's better this way or if it would look better "up-side-down" or "right-side-up"??? :D
