Alas, it's not a bird. It's actually one lone leaf that is still attached to that little branch for some reason. With the high contrast B/W, the minuscule little stem that connects the leaf to the tree just disappeared. Leaving the leaf to float out into the sky to realize his dream of becoming the same as those beautiful flying creatures that built a nest in his tree.

I think I noticed that it looked like a bird before entering the shot, but I didn't realize it would have such an impact!

This is the same tree I used for the first Single Tree challenge (it's in our backyard, so it's an easy target). I thought it might be fun to see how the two images would compare. Surprisingly, they got almost the exact same score! I personally like the new one better.

Interesting shot/crop. I like that you chose a horizontal crop rather than the expected vertical shot. The bird really adds to the shot too.

The all white background really makes the tree stand out and gives it an abstract feel, but it is SO bright it hurts my eyes a little.
