 My first entry! I just discovered the site yesterday. ambient light - 50mm lens at 2.0 to keep the cat in focus but blur the child. (yes, I know it is a fat cat--she is on a diet)

I love the focus, the scene, the lighting, the colors, pretty much everything. Maybe my only nitpick is the tight crop (I want to see the whole cat) and the distracing clutter in the background on the nightstand. But I love this!

WOW! Stunning brilliant image. Sure to finish in the top 10. Fits the challenge perfectly. I can feel the silence. Super composition. Lovely cat.

Good portrayal of silence. I might have experimented with blocking light on the child and putting more light on the cat, but then again, this also looks like a genuine moment that may not have permitted much opportunity for manipulating the light. I like the DOF very much.

Hello hello! Sorry it took me so long to get around to this :)

I really liked this photo when I went through them...the depth of field is really really nice, and I love how sharp the cat is. The colors are lovely and calming, and the exposure is good.

I think the only real problems with this shot are the distracting background on the right and the fact that half the cat is cut off.

This would probably have been around a 6 had I been voting. If the background wasn't distracting and the cat wasn't cut off, it would have been a 7 or an 8.
