I'm not sure if it's friend or foe, but it is a bit out of focus. 6 waltoml.

Spider web, right? But I have a toy that looks like this. Pretty good shot. But the friend is a little out of focus. Good shot of the web.

No focus... no glory.

Concept is good. That smiley can be deceptive, huh? The focus is softer here than I think it needs to be. A macro attachment might solve this problem for such close shots. :-) 5, just-married

though shot to execute here... idea: i would have held up a piece of colored or dark paper behind this in order to create some extra contrast between the subject and the surroundings... The focus is a bit too soft here also... - setzler

I had a look at doing camoflage and deception in spiders this week, but a frost has sent all the wolf spiders to bed for the year.

When photographing things like this you need: A tripod, a bright windless day, reflectors and a shade. Set up the tripod, camera in macro mode a few centimeters from the subject. Set up as small an aperture as possible (I go down to about 1/8 sec if I can get away with it, 1/60 sec if theres a breeze). Shade the spider, as they are very hairy and direct light causes the hairs to show up as bright white. Use the reflectors to get a bit of light onto it. Try not to disturb it, as it'll run away into a corner and take a while to come out again.
