Hi Richard,
Greetings from the Critique Club...
I was surprised to see the score on this shot -- lower than I would have expected.
Your muted tones are a great fit for the subject and composition. The pale green oof grass sets off your subject very nicely. The splotches of yellow let me feel the spring in the air (to nit pick - the one white one distracts).
The informal portrait is wonderful -- the crisp focus on the blue eyes and the soft wind-blurring of the hair is excellent. I agree with the commenter who wanted to fill the frame a bit more with the face.
So why the relatively low score? I can only guess that the blurry tree uses a good amount of space but does noting to increase the appeal of the shot. It's soft color/lighting goes well. It has to be blurry not to distract but its blurriness detracts as well. This brings me back to the "more of your subject" suggestion as the way around this.
I hope you found the comments helpful. Please pm me with any questions
Regards,
Theresa |

Cute portrait... the shallow dof works well, and the flowers in the background really add to the shot. The photo really complements the girl... there is just the right amount of sharpness and the saturation is perfect. |

Nice blurred background, I would have moved in closer to get more of the head to fill the frame. |
