Outtake from Brown Ribbon Deja Vu, thinking maybe you guys prefer a subject who looks down the lens? Or maybe just want another (hopefully) 6+ score to counteract the clunkers I've entered lately.
Shot was lit directly above and front by an SB-900 in a DIY turkey-pan beauty dish. Opened in camera raw and added a slight boost to contrast. Changed to Lab color and gave a strong contrast curve to the Lightness channel, and dragged down the center of the a/b curves very slightly. Converted back to RGB, made a strong b/w version of the shot (optikverve's Hollywood filter), which I then set to multiply, at 27% opacity. Used a curve to darken his ear, lighten his neck. High pass-ed version of the shot, at 4px radius, set to Hard Light and 56% fill. One more curves layer to brighten up the image and the red channel a little. Resize, sharpen, save for web.
These were the steps copied and pasted from the Brown Ribbon challenge, but they should be about the same. Enjoy! Again!

Interesting photo. My frist thought was..."What terrible thing did he do?" But, after looking at it for a bit, he could have done something good. Finsihed operating and such. I like how it doesn't give the answer. It makes you think and find what you want too find within it.
Like the choice of lighting here, makes it look as though it's in an inclosed area that's dark. The only nit pick would be the lighting on his left arm. 8 |
