 Bosque del Apache is a wildlife refuge that is famous for the variety of birds who pass through. This day is was VERY lucky to get really close to one of the two road runners I saw. They are generally quite shy and run away from humans, but this little guy came toward me, slowly so I could catch lots of pictures, and passed by within 6 or 7 feet of me. This is one of those birds that clearly looks like it evolved from the dinosaurs. And they don't really say 'meep meep', they make a kind of trilling coo chirp, very cute. You can see a closeup here

brilliant combo colleen .. those birds just crack me up .. they look so funny especially the one on the left .. looks like someone trying to see over the taller guy in front of him and the one on the right .. steppin' out .. !!!..:)
we used to watch bugs bunny when we were young .. in fact i've got tweety bird saying something to sylvester as the message alert tone on my mobile/cell .. anyhooooo .. i'd never seen an actual road runner until now .. they seem to have nearly as much personality as in the cartoon ... :)
