I left a comment in the forum thread that mentioned this image but also wanted to add that I think the foreground detracts from the image and sort of disrupts it by chopping off the legs of the tourists, and that yellow/red line just kinda looks like police caution tape or construction tape or something and also just sort of doesn't work for me. Having said that, the more I look at the image the more I do like it. The guard standing there in the middle overseeing the people moving through seems sort of reminiscent of the authority vs the people conflict that resulted in that massacre years ago, and I like how he is aligned with the portrait of this emblematic Chinese historical figure. In fact the top 80% of the shot is pleasing.

The main subject seems to be the giant photo of Mao. I don't pay much attention to titles as I feel entries should mainly stand on their own, but in this case I thought "Unthinkable" referred in some way to the presence of the photo. I didn't recognize the locale so could not consider its history. I assumed the tourists were an unavoidable element in the photo.

Tiberius, I may not be the best person to comment on your image, because actually I gave this a highish score (7). I think possibly the one comment you did get is helpful from a technical point of view. You could have cropped it a bit differently to exclude the foreground. As you said in the forum post,I think most people probably did not recognise it as Tian'an Men Square and as you say, focused on the picture of Mao, thus not finding the connection to 100 years old very easily.

I personally thought it was an interesting take on the challenge and am sorry and surprised it did not do better for you.
