 The large structure in the background is the Mainz Dom - cathedral. They will celebrate in August the "birth" of the Dom - the inauguration was in 1009. Ain't that something? As far as I know, all the other buildings are at least 100 years old, too. I didn't check though - figured the Dom pretty much met the challenge. :-)

This is a great shot, its completed by all the subjects in it, and the processing doesn't look too tacky. Its title probably hurt this even though it fits the challenge 100%. I guess it could have placed higher.

Awesome shot. I didn't get to it while voting, but there are a lot of things I like with this image -- the main building has a lot of lines and angles, yet, the curves on the ground counter that nicely. But, beyond that, I like it because it looks so strong and confident.

The b/w really adds to this shot. The circular lines add interest to the rigid structure lines, and the straight line in the foreground draws the eye to the center with the pedestrian. A little overlit in the second store facade.

Amazing amount of detail, and nice leading lines into the frame. I wish the sky were a bit more dramatic, but this is essentially an excellent shot.
