I had originally processed this as a toned image, then decided a couple of months ago to try it in color in order to submit it to 1x.com. It was super popular there, as my maiden voyage, very gratifying to see it on their most popular page for a day.

This image is uncropped. Believe me, I wish I'd had more room around my horse! Thanks so much for all the votes, comments and favorites! 100th place and nearly 100 comments during voting, way cool.

After a very long think, I have to say this colour version is most effective, though the toned version was outstanding.

This is quite good.

eta: Had to come back and qualify that statement - "quite good" is Rina-speak for reactions/emotions I'm unable to articulate properly, because my jaw has hit the ground :)

I like this non-traditional pic of a horse, it looks a little awkward but in a way that makes it feel more real to me.

Beautiful light, especially in the rising dust. Interesting how the lens flare creates a sort of fairy-tale bubble. It's like the light appeared, causing the running horse to stop abruptly.

This is incredibly beautiful. I would mistake those gnats for fairy dust. The lighting is spectacular! The lens flare really adds an awesome element! 10

Wonderful image, has a magical, mystical quality. I almost expect the horse to be a unicorn but it's missing the horn on it's head. Lovely processing. Only little niggle is that I feel you cropped a bit close at the bottom of the frame. A bit more ground underneath the horse would have been great. 8

Really like this. I suspect however, that you are getting beat up for the lens flare. It's hard to get this sort of light without some flare.

Voted earlier coming back to leave comments now. A hazy and hot day this young mare takes a much needed roll in the sand to seek relief from the heat and those pesky gnats & horseflies. The warm reddish/orange and golden hues along with the small dust cloud being kicked up invokes the idea of it being a hot and hazy day. Normally I don't like large sun spots caught on 'film' but oddly enough I think it really suits the mood and feel of this capture. The shape and color of that large sunspot to the far top left invokes imagery of the sun that much more strongly. I love how the light adds a real nice golden glow around the horse especially on the tail, the mane, and mouth. And now I am going to spoil the review with a critique:-) Sigh, does she HAVE TO do that...I know, picky picky right:-) Often times people can connect more readily with an animal or person if they can see their face and/or expression. Seeing & looking into this horse's eyes and face would, I feel, help cement the mood my showing it's reaction to the action it is taking.
