That unwanted glare is what makes the shot better, IMO. Without it you'd lose a lot of the feeling and the sense of days gone by.

The intangible quality of light in this image is fantastic, and really makes the shot. I like your B&W treatment as well, the nicely muted contrast and the warm melancholy that it produces.
