Underrated by a mile! Should have scored a LOT higher! I know how hard it is to get to that particular spot, not to mention the perfect timing of the camel walking by.

wonderful. the shot of the Taj and the sky would have been great in and of itself but add the camel and it takes it over the top. congrats.

DPC is such a puzzle. I am surprised this didn't ribbon; on the other hand, considering what seems to be the ribbon taste, I have to be pleased this did as well as it did. It simply crowns all the reading I have been doing about the history of India, including the present day. In any case this will live longer than the others.

Perfectly gorgeous, a non-typical, gritty view of the monument. Well done!

It's now bump city for you, just in the nick of time. The more I look, the better I like :-) Moving you to the 9 group, and good luck in the challenge!

I think what really does it for me is the sheer incongruity (in my mind at least) of a wading camel!

I've been here and appreciated the Taj ... but never from this perspective and never in quite this light. The boy and the camel are inspired elements. I'm nominating you for the blue ribbon with this. Best of show.

Voted earlier coming back to vote now. I see this young boy strolling in the waters with his camel in tow. He is returning home after a successful day at the market - everything loaded on the camel's back this morning has been sold. He is happy for he returns home to his father with his pockets full of money. This is why he choose to travel home this way past the Taj Mahal. If any thief tried to steal, they would be heard far more easily. This is the story I see with this capture. Love all the details seen in the architecture on the Taj Mahal as well as the human element (the boy and the camel) that brings a story with it. I also like the sepia tones that add to the look, mood and feel that this picture was captured on film decades ago. A memory of a moment in time long since past. Great capture!

Incredible, I can't fault it. 10 from me and I hope you get the blue.

Having gone hunting a little - this must be ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', '/') + 1) . ' Tez - fabulous image, I hadn't seen ' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/75000-79999/78062/120/739395.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/75000-79999/78062/120/739395.jpg', '/') + 1) . ' before which is also great, but for me the figure and camel foreground enhances what is already a spectacular background. The vignette here is just right too.... and that's before we get to the tones, the light..... I'm getting boring now - I'll shut up!

Not sure I like the post processing on this photo. the whole image feels kinda gritty when I think a cleaner, sharper version would be more compelling.

Hauntingly beautiful. The camel and person add a real depth that is normally missing from the stand "postcard" view of this building.

How much did you pay for the kid and the camel???? Seriously, the Taj, a kid, AND a camel??? This is a historic-looking shot. Great detail, great sky, even the splash the camel is making. I love this. I've been here and this shot really captures the yin/yang of India. A fave.

Brings back memories , I have been to the Taj in 1990. Your image does justice to this wonder. nicely done and composed, I can see a slight halo probably the result from your post processing which distracts from an otherwise great image. 8

Wonderful balance between the two main elements of the shot. Cloudy overcast look to the sky is reflected in the downcast pose of the boy and there is clear separation between the power and wealth of the Taj Mahal facing out of the shot whilst the boy and camel are at right angles to it, ignoring it and passing it by.

03/13/2009 03:51:48 PM
That's a lovely capture... the guy with Camel and Taj in background...I love that. I wish you could process(edit) the image a little differently to keep the Taj clean and bright and darken the sky.. I would just pop then...Its a shame that such a capture is not treated well..I hope after the challenge is done you do some edits and print a poster and keep it...
cheers!
