It was a testament to the human spirit, some would say. A strength of will, a desire to be normal at all costs, a heart-touching story of determination.
But for him, it was just another day. For it was what he knew, it was what he did. Like anyone else, he went to bed at night, and woke in the morning, and dressed, and ate, and played and learned and grew.
And dreamed.
For though he may have to get around a little differently than others, he was still just a boy, and he still had all the hopes and dreams and desires that anyone else had, and he did his best to accomplish them, like anyone else did.
And as darkness fell on this day, he cast his line in one final time, and dreamt of catching the big one, and looked forward to dinner that night, and thought nothing of the chair in which he sat.
And for him there was nothing special or different or heartfelt or being a part of any testament to any spirit.
For him, it was just another day. |

reminiscent of Le Petit Prince, but better of course.

Hrmmm... You've done a good job here, and I freely grant you that; you made it into my high-seeds group, and I'm giving you a 7 in the end.
But what I have to say is a personal reaction, and it may seem harsh: if you're aware of the difference between "pathos" and "bathos", then you'll understand when I say that in my opinion this image is living with one foot dangerously planted in the bathetic. That is to say, it seems to be overtly designed to push my buttons, tug at my heart strings, get me to react to its message in a favorable way. And I don't respond all that well to this sort of manipulation.
Please note: I'm NOT saying you are "guilty" of that process, just that it's the way the image makes me *feel*, OK? If anything the flaw is mine, not yours. And besides, if that *is* what you were after, well you accomplished it with flying colors :-) I can see this being a poster shot for MS or something, easily. |

| I have to say...I positively love the emotion & symbolism captured in this photo! The young boy, wheelchair bound, is determined to 'catch' all that life has to offer. He does NOT let his condition limit him in life. He shows us a positive attitude and a fishing rod he is ready to push the boundaries to reach for and capture the stars. The warm hues of the orange and gold sky complements the warm mood and positive message that this photo captures. I also love the choice of having the young child in silhouette with no individual identifying features for it gives us, the viewers, the understanding that this can be anybody...anyone can reach for and catch their dreams if they only try. Wonderfully captured and wonderfully done. |
